Host Application ProcessThe Host Application is now closed. If you are interested in hosting a fellow, please reach out to Camille via email (tbb@berkeley.edu). Campus partners are invited to submit an application with a project proposal that outlines the desired learning outcomes for their TBB Fellow. If your opportunity is approved, you will receive a confirmation email and the opportunity will be listed as one of the available fellowships for students to apply to on the TBB Website. After students submit their applications (deadline: July 12), campus partners will interview applicants through Zoom and will inform the TBB Fellowship Coordinator of their candidate choice(s). Once placements are finalized, contracts will be sent to hosts & fellows. The TBB Fellowship program will officially begin at the start of the Fall 2024 semester. Host FAQs Where can I learn more about hosting a TBB Fellow? Our Host Informational Session took place on Tuesday, April 16th, 2024 from 1-2pm. Link to Slides Is there a maximum number of fellows that departments/units can have? It will depend on how many students apply and how many fellows your department/unit want to accept and can provide funding for. In previous years, departments/units have accepted between 1-3 fellows. Is the host a single person or department/unit? The host is the person who will be working with the student the most, and that can be anyone in the unit/department (doesn’t have to be a faculty member or the head of the department/unit). You’ll see on the application that we ask for Department/Unit and also Host/Mentor so we are aware of both. Would we be sponsoring a student from our own unit/department, or hosting a student from an applicant pool? You will be hosting a student from an applicant pool. Once the list of approved opportunities is finalized, students will submit their applications for opportunities they are interested in. The Host/Mentor will be able to interview students and select the student(s) they would like to work with. If a host has already pre-selected a USP student to fulfill the fellowship role, we ask that you please note that on the host application and contact Camille via email (tbb@berkeley.edu). What would deem a student eligible to be a fellow? Students must meet the general eligibility criteria to participate in the fellowship. As for the selection process, it would depend on what each host is looking for and what experience would be helpful to have for the tasks/project. We welcome students with a variety of experiences to apply. Our main goal is to connect students who may otherwise not be able to gain experiential learning and professional development experiences within units on campus and for this to be a great experience for both the host and the fellow. What does "guiding a student through a yearlong project" entail, exactly? This means providing the student proper guidance for them to be successful in the process of completing their project. It may look different depending on what the project entails (training, etc.). We would also like the host/mentor to meet with the fellow once a week or once every other week (whichever makes the most sense), to see how they are doing in general and for them to feel supported in their project. Could existing team projects associated with a program or course be used for this fellowship? Yes, existing team projects can definitely be used for the fellowship. For these projects, we welcome flexibility and adaptation that meets your needs and those of your fellow(s). How is the scholarship provided to fellows? The TBB Fellowship Coordinator will send out communication prior to the anticipated scholarship disbursal dates. Fellows receive their funding through their financial aid packages. Hosts are asked to either: 1) directly disburse their portion of the scholarship through their own departmental awards process or 2) provide a chartstring number to the TBB Fellowship Coordinator that can be used to process the scholarship. Q: My department/unit may not be able to fully fund the $1,000 host contribution toward the fellow stipend. Would this disqualify us from participating in the fellowship? We are committed to working with you to ensure opportunities for hosting a fellow are accessible. While campus partners are encouraged to contribute $1,000 towards each fellow’s stipend, we understand that financial constraints may not allow for that, and we don’t want this to deter potential hosts from applying and partaking in this opportunity. Hence, we encourage you to complete the host application regardless of your department’s/unit’s ability to make this financial contribution. The application priority deadline has passed, but I am still interested in hosting a fellow. Can I still apply? Yes, we encourage you to still apply! Our program has the flexibility to open new fellowship positions throughout the academic year.
